BANOOL ROAD ‘SAXON’ TOWNHOUSES

MELBOURNE, VIC

GroupGSA collaborated with MP Architects for the design of two multi-residential townhouse developments, Banool Road (Balwyn) and Tate Street (Ivanhoe). Influenced by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie houses a similar architectural order was employed, where the ground floor serves as a solid masonry plinth (grey brick) supporting the lightweight clad upper level (white render/weatherboard cladding). Projecting cantilevered roof eaves accentuates the horizontal plane, while vertical grey cladding provides visual breaks in the composition. Natural timber accents are used to highlight the garage doors, planters, sunscreens and entrance porticos.

A contemporary design approach was adopted for the interiors to create a seamless transition from inside to outside. Crisp white walls and ceilings pair with a carefully selected contemporary neutral palette including Caesar stone benchtops, natural timber veneer surfaces, premium chrome fixtures and fittings, bespoke anodised metal shelving and modern appliances. Timber floors line the spacious open plan living areas.  Fully glazed sliding doors allow living and kitchen areas flow seamlessly out onto alfresco spaces and landscaped gardens.
