LILLIAN FOWLER RESERVE

NEWTOWN, NSW

The renewed neighbourhood park situated in the backstreets of Newtown provides a destination for the local residents and school children from the adjoining Primary School. The small park is subtly divided into a series of spaces to give greater flexibility as to how it can be used by different groups at the same time. This is a key factor in the inner city environment where open space is in high demand.

The park includes an active area with play equipment, open spaces for gathering and picnics and a sensory garden featuring plants of different shapes, textures, scents.

A stormwater reuse system has been integrated into the park to enhance the long term quality of the turf and planting, and to reduce water demand. Stormwater is collected from adjacent school hall and hard courts, filtered through a raingarden in the park, collected and used for irrigation.
