WARD AVE, POTTS POINT

POTTS POINT, NSW

The building located at the junction of  Bayswater Road + Ward Avenue announces the threshold into the Potts Point precinct. The design is a sympathetic contribution to the rich language of urban living that is emblematic of Potts Point. The overlays of heritage restoration and interpretation, contemporary site-specific architecture, and a considered public domain interface regenerates a neglected corner of Potts Point.

GroupGSA’s design respects the history of the site and it’s context. The original features of the Hensley Hall elevation are restored. The contemporary infill component is inspired by the qualities of the Potts Point context that make it a successful precinct. The setback of the new from the old along Bayswater road is deferential and the massing is articulated with reference to the existing building. A 3 dimensional approach to built form, such as articulated roofs, depart from planar, slab forms to enrich the context.
