Avenel Park
Avenel Park is a vibrant, active and inclusive recreational hub designed to deliver more open-space opportunities in Western Sydney.
Building on our strong partnership with Fairfield City Council, GroupGSA was engaged to refine and develop the concept design plan in collaboration with the Council's Open Space team. The result is a bold and dynamic park that invites the Fairfield community to move, play and connect.
The park offers a diverse mix of spaces, including multi-sport courts for basketball, futsal, volleyball and pickleball, alongside table tennis facilities, sprint tracks, and an urban skatepark for skateboarding, BMX and scootering. An outdoor fitness zone features a ninja obstacle course and exercise equipment stations. Flexible kickabout lawns, picnic spaces, and misting stations support intergenerational play, fitness and urban cooling in response to Western Sydney's rising heat.
The project draws its visual identity from the Sacred Kingfisher, with bold teal and orange tones carried through the park’s furniture, play elements and architectural structures. A striking linear shade canopy translates the bird’s geometry and colouration into a recognisable visual landmark that gives the park a strong and playful character.
Avenel Park offers a vibrant, welcoming destination for all ages and abilities to gather, play and stay active. Stage 1 was completed in December 2024 and Stage 2 in early 2025.
