Camberwell Hockey Club
Feasibility studies carried out for the Camberwell Hockey Club pavilion at Matlock Reserve, Camberwell, determined that replacement was more effective than refurbishment and upgrade of the existing outdated building.
GroupGSA was engaged as lead consultant to design a new pavilion and the surrounding landscape upgrade.
During preliminary community consultation, the integration of the landscaped areas of the reserve with the existing synthetic turf playing surface and the new pavilion was determined as being important to club members.
To achieve this objective, GroupGSA’s landscape architects considered the new building design’s relationship with the existing mature trees in the reserve, the proposed landscaped areas and the playing pitch to improve overall park amenity. An area adjoining the new pavilion is upgraded to provide additional seating, picnic facilities and new shade trees.
In addition, the boundary fences to the reserve were reviewed to ensure club security but allow increased public access to open space and viewing areas.
General park furniture, vegetation and circulation patterns are upgraded to provide comfortable amenities for match viewers and park visitors.
