IAG Hurstville
GroupGSA transformed IAG’s Hurstville office into a flexible hybrid workplace through a carefully staged, in-occupation refurbishment that minimised disruption for 260 staff. The project focused on sustainable renewal, retaining significant portions of the existing built form and furniture to reduce waste while opening up clear sightlines and improving navigation with well-placed landmarks. This strategy balanced efficiency with environmental responsibility, creating a workplace that supports IAG’s long-term goals for sustainability and adaptability.
Spanning 2,500 sqm across levels 6 and 7, the workplace was planned in close alignment with IAG’s workplace design guidelines and accommodation standards. GroupGSA worked thoughtfully within these frameworks, elevating them with key design innovations such as multi-modal work points, quiet ‘ante-spaces’ and improved circulation strategies. The result is a workplace that not only meets but exceeds IAG’s own benchmarks for consistency and performance across its portfolio.
The design supports hybrid working through a diverse mix of settings, including high-acoustic workstations, focus pods, booths and collaborative zones, giving staff freedom to choose where and how they work. ‘Home zones’ along the building perimeter capture natural light and views, while neighbourhoods are designed to encourage cross-team collaboration.
Cultural connection was a key design driver, with communal areas fostering interaction and a sense of playfulness. The Marketplace on level 7, with its large kitchen and community dining area, hosts regular team gatherings, while level 6 offers a games room, terrace and a library-style retreat for quiet work. These spaces reinforce IAG’s focus on attracting and retaining talent.
Specialised facilities include a tech bar, curation bar and a disaster-response command centre with live-stream technology. A carer’s room, first aid room and sensory retreat support diverse staff needs. Warm materials, greenery and home-like finishes complete a welcoming environment that reflects IAG’s brand and culture.
