In partnership with Snowy Monaro Regional Council, GroupGSA is delivering a bold new vision for the Lake Jindabyne Foreshore, enhancing public spaces, celebrating local stories, and shaping a sustainable future for the Snowy Mountains region.

Lake Jindabyne and its township represent a rich layering of Monero-Ngarigo Country, European heritage, and the rugged alpine character of the Snowy Mountains. The core of our design philosophy focuses on strengthening connectivity along the foreshore while fostering a future where public and recreational spaces act as platforms for storytelling, cultural expression, and vibrant community life across all seasons.

A key driver in the design is the proximity to Lake Jindabyne - a working reservoir, where almost all new infrastructure is designed above the ‘Full Supply Level’. Knowing on occasion the water will rise to this level, and in rare events even higher, all infrastructure was designed ensuring robustness. Lighting and electrical fittings are designed above the full supply level and/or with the ability for Council to safely disconnect and plug conduits prior to high water events.

Through extensive consultation with Traditional Owners, stakeholders and local residents, we have captured the community’s deep connection to place and shared aspirations for the foreshore. A key outcome of this collaborative process is the establishment of a cultural and educational trail, designed to preserve, interpret and celebrate the enduring stories and traditions of the region’s First Nations peoples and early settler history, enriching the visitor experience and sense of place.

The Lake Jindabyne Foreshore concept design was placed on public exhibition for community feedback, allowing broad engagement to inform and refine the evolving vision. The design weaves together a series of distinctive landmark spaces along the water’s edge, each carefully crafted to encourage exploration, recreation, and social connection, while reinforcing the foreshore as a year-round civic and tourism destination.
