The Unilodge student accommodation tower at 789 Hunter Street, Newcastle West, represents a vibrant redevelopment that blends historical and modern design elements.

The Unilodge student accommodation tower at 789 Hunter Street, Newcastle West, represents a vibrant redevelopment that blends historical and modern design elements.

The project aims to rejuvenate the landmark position in the new CBD with a sensitive architectural language and vibrant colour palette inspired by the 1940s functionalist and art deco influences, along with the natural coastal environment.

The building, designed to house nearly 530 students, features tall, slender forms and a series of towers with a polychromic façade. The design reflects both the current and future character of the Newcastle West area, creating a playfulness in the window hoods and a hierarchy in building components.

The project, prepared on behalf of Linkcity and Unilodge, aims to revitalise Newcastle West and align with the future vision of the new CBD around the transport interchange. Integrating the heritage hotel within the new building, this development is set to become a new landmark, bringing increased population and economic benefits to the area, and redefining the Newcastle CBD skyline.
