Director Lisa-Maree Carrigan is recognised as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, honouring her outstanding contribution to architectural practice, leadership and advocacy for equity across the profession.

Lisa-Maree’s elevation to Fellowship marks a career defined by design excellence, business leadership and a deep commitment to the people and communities her work serves.

“I am deeply honoured to be accepted as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects,” Carrigan said. “This recognition is both humbling and inspiring. I am sincerely grateful to the Institute for its commitment to advancing architectural excellence and leadership in our community, and I look forward to continuing my own contribution through mentorship, collaboration and the pursuit of design that enriches both people and place.”

Held at NSW Parliament House, the 2025 NSW Fellows Luncheon celebrated architects who have made a lasting contribution to the profession beyond practice. NSW Chapter President Elizabeth Carpenter said: “Our newest Fellows exemplify the generosity and passion that NSW design is known for, advancing architectural practice through excellence, collaboration and innovation.”

A multi-award-winning architect, Lisa-Maree studied at the University of Newcastle, graduating with First Class Honours in 1992 before honing her skills in major Sydney and London practices. Since joining GroupGSA in 2001, she has led complex, city-shaping projects across 12 countries, spanning Australia, the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Her work blends innovation, sustainability and commercial clarity, qualities that have defined GroupGSA’s design reputation.

Collaboratively with Nancy Piazzolla, GroupGSA has achieved the lowest gender pay gap among Australian architecture firms for two consecutive years, reflecting her commitment to equity and culture as core design principles.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lisa-Maree co-founded Tomorrow’s Women in Construction, an initiative empowering young women to explore careers in the built environment.

Her Fellowship recognition is a celebration of her personal contribution and a reflection of her enduring vision: to create architecture that connects people, honours place and strengthens practice for generations to come.
