We’re proud to announce that Rosebery Engine Yards has been named a finalist at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2025 in the Completed Buildings—Creative Reuse category.

This project’s recognition internationally is a very exciting milestone. WAF is the world’s largest annual architectural event, bringing together leading architects to celebrate the most outstanding projects from across the globe. Finalists present their projects live to a panel of judges and an audience of their peers, fostering a unique and interactive judging process. This year, WAF will take place in the USA for the first time. It will be hosted at the Miami Beach Convention Centre from 12 – 14 November 2025. It is in the heart of South Beach and close to the Art Deco Historic District.

Rosebery Engine Yards is a powerful example of what can be achieved through heritage-led renewal. Working with Goodman and Taylor Construction, we transformed this dormant industrial site into a vibrant precinct that blends original character with thoughtful, modern design.

We preserved the warehouse’s iconic brick façade, sawtooth roofs and structural elements while introducing sustainable design features and contemporary flexibility. The site now supports commercial and retail spaces within an open, functional layout that respects its history.

Public engagement has been central to the project. Interpretive installations, pedestrian pathways and Patrizia Biondi’s striking artwork “Timber tapestries—stories carved in grain” all contribute to a richer community experience. The landscape, guided by a ‘re-wilding’ strategy, softens the industrial edge with native plantings and urban biodiversity.

With a $60.3 million investment and a strong focus on sustainability, the project targets 5-star Green Star and NABERS ratings. We minimised waste and embodied carbon through adaptive reuse while delivering long-term social and economic value.

Being recognised at WAF 2025, among the world’s best, is a true honour.

Rosebery Engine Yards stands as a benchmark for adaptive reuse and continues to inspire our team to design with purpose and legacy.  Lisa-Maree Carrigan, Director, looks forward to presenting our project in Miami this November.
