The new Junior Learning Centre at Logan Reserve State School has been commissioned by the Department of Education Queensland to meet the urgent demand of a growing student population in the City of Logan, Queensland. This facility allows the school to meet in-catchment enrolment demand in the short to medium term.GroupGSA Architecture team has delivered a new two-story building as an extension of the existing school comprising nine general learning areas, and one Specialist learning area.
Beyond conventional classrooms, the creation of spaces is conducive to diverse modes of learning. Outdoor Learning Areas, Practical Learning Spaces, and Break-out Collaborative Areas serve as dynamic extensions of the traditional classroom setting, enriching the educational experience. Staff Work Rooms strategically positioned in close proximity to General Learning Areas facilitate seamless coordination and collaboration among educators.
The design encompasses a mix of innovation and cost-effective solutions, which take into consideration the character of the adjacent buildings and school campus masterplan. Built form, materials and finishes align with the palette of the existing school buildings to provide a complimentary transition from existing to new. Natural cross ventilation and solar shading have been incorporated into the design, to provide a comfortable and efficient teaching and learning facility.
