ABC sought to provide an environment aligned to the changing media landscape and emerging digital demands.

This resulted in a strategic workplace which creates a foundation for the ABC focus on providing high quality, distinctive content, on connecting communities and on delivering outstanding experiences for all Australians.

Studios: Sydney, Australia
Key Facts:
  • As per Open Asset
  • The project pictured is the first of a 5-year property plan to deploy design standards produced by GGSA in collaboration with ABC propoerty across ABC national sites
  • Level 3 is the first physical 'pilot' for the new ways of working including an outdoor terrace
  • GGSA are currently working on other spaces with the Ultimo GQ

Metaphors for these objectives have been realised in the design of ABC’s new home i.e. in the physical realm. The ABC design language is founded in the familiarity and reliability that the network has instilled in our identity as an Australian. It is the comforting voice from the back-shed radio on weekend mornings while pottering about the garden.

It is the stories shared with family over dinner at the kitchen table. It is the soundtrack to a friend’s barbecue blaring from the verandah on a steaming hot summers day – we all take shelter in the ABC we know.

To represent this in physical form, GroupGSA constructed a series of built open and closed shelters to house collaboration zones, focused areas and meeting spaces responding to the unique architecture of the Ultimo Centre.

We looked to modest but durable materials, progressive zoning, working and meeting typologies as well as an indoor environment supported by a wellness attentive design.
