The precinct includes central Footscray, bounded by Hopkins, Donald, and Moore Streets and contains many retail and food businesses and a residential neighbourhood. We worked closely with the Council to design and deliver this community project.
Our brief was to convert part of the existing on-grade carpark to a public square, create a rear access laneway along the property, and construct a four-storey building on the remainder of the carpark. The building would have retail uses on the ground floor and four levels of car parking above for 142 car parks. It also involved upgrading the Byron Street road between Leeds and Nicholson Streets.
The council engaged local community artists to prepare the patterns and installations skillfully incorporated into the architectural and landscape response.
