As part of the NSW Government’s Commuter Car Park Program, the Edmondson Park North Commuter Car Park from Transport for NSW has successfully delivered a significant increase of 900 new parking spaces. The NSW Government is committed to delivering accessible public transport infrastructure, so Transport for NSW is providing more commuter car parks where needed. Its benefits include improved customer access to the public transport network, encouraging mode shift away from private vehicles, improves the flexibility and reliability of customer ‘first and last mile’ of their journey contributing to reducing congestion on the road network.
The Edmondson Park North Commuter Car Park stands out with its unique features. Our design includes a ground-plus-six suspended-level car park and boasts:
The artwork installed at the car park’s pedestrian entrance complements the south commuter car park and reflect the area’s natural history.
The commuter car park has developed world-leading sustainability initiatives to allow future projects to adopt greener construction methods and create resilient and future-focused infrastructure, supporting Transport for NSW’s Net Zero and climate change commitments.
The traffic assessment involved removing parallel parking and adding a new through lane. A large stormwater detention facility was also installed to reduce the post-development discharge from the existing greenfield site. It is built using innovative construction methods. This project is one of the first to apply the principles and requirements of the latest Concrete Code (AS3600-2018). Amongst the main updates were new design provisions for earthquake ductility, detailing and floor plate diaphragm design.
The new northern car park has adopted world-leading sustainability initiatives, including artificial intelligence-powered energy monitoring systems, portable battery systems in place of diesel generators, and hydrogen generators.
The achievements include:
The AW Edwards construction team incorporated world-leading isunitiatives such as the Gaia Automate smart distribution board energy monitoring system, the Enertainer Power Bank system, and hydrogen generators replacing diesel generators.
It complies with the Sustainability Design Guidelines v4.0 and has enabled a sustainability legacy case study document to be used as a reference for future projects.
The project has been recognised with a prestigious Platinum rating, the highest-level rating awarded by Transport for NSW.
