CAI LUONG Museum

CAN THO, Vietnam

GroupGSA created a uniquely crafted museum for the Southern Vietnamese art of Cai Luong. Working with the artists who conceived the art as a dragon rising up, a sinuous form emerging from the rice fields where the art form originated, was created. The curved form also created an outdoor amphitheater that was both classic in form and unique in its creation – a little like the cultures that came together to create Cai Luong.

The walls are translucent with screening derived from the fish traps used in the areas. Internally the visitor takes a single path through the exhibitions finally exiting into the seating area where they can enjoy in a special performance. This is a deceptively simple building that uses one line to do many things and creates something special that befits its subject.
